I love Mexican food, and I always Yelp the best Mexican restaurants when I'm visiting new areas. This place was on the list, and boy it didn't disappoint! The tres tacos with carne asada (Mexican style with onions and cilantro) were absolutely fantastic. The service and prices were great. The chips were good, salsa was average but still good. I'm going there again tonight and will probably order the exact same thing!

I have no idea why people think this place is good. Mexican food is boring in this town and this restaurant may add a few more chopped tomatoes but I seriously do not understand why people cannot taste the difference from good and mediocre. Maybe if one has experienced fresh real Mexican the there is a benchmark. Nice people work at the restaurant. I have tried it a couple of times and I just don't understand why people say it's the best in town. We don't have real Mexican food in this town. Thank you and good night.

Tried this restaurant on vacation looking for an authentic Mexican dinner. As we walked in we were greeted by a simple dining room and an elderly Hispanic man eating dinner. All concerns I had about it not being good due to an empty parking lot were gone. The food was amazing and the waitresses were real people and very nice. If you're looking for reheated Mexican dinners and cries of "hot plate" go somewhere else. If you want amazing, fresh, authentic Mexican food then Sabor A Mexico is for you. I will be back every year.

Well, I read the two reviews on here and figured, why not. I had dinner last night and lunch there today so yeah, it was good. Last night I ordered the lengua taco's a la carte with a side of beans. Delicious! The tacos had plenty of meat with cilantro and onion. With a squeeze of fresh lime these babies were awesome! Paired with an ice cold Modelo Especial, I could not have asked for more at the moment. Total, under $11! Today for lunch I ordered the carnitas which comes with rice, beans and guacamole salad for sides. I also threw in a chili relleno with cheese on a la carte. The carnitas were pretty good. Not the best, but far from the worst. The chili relleno on the other hand was very unique and absolutely delicious. It was not breaded like most and had a red sauce on it that I have never had on Mexican food before that I found almost addictive. Since it was early in the day I ordered an ice water with this meal but all in all was just over $13. This place has very good service, great food and very good prices. As mentioned in another review, no liquor, just beer and wine. I am a beer drinker so I am ok with that. If you are in the area, check this place out. It is the real deal. I myself live in Virginia Beach, VA and you will NOT find Mexican food this good.

Yummy with authentic items on the items. Tacos and tortas al pastor, lenga tacos, whole fried fish. All your favorites are also on the menu. Prices are great for a local or family on vacation. Service was pleasant and quick. Salsa and cheese dip is above par. I would highly recommend this place for Mexican food lovers.

Good fajita's and they have $2 off on Thursdays. Service is ok nothing to write home about. Fajita flavor is good and has mushrooms and squash which adds good pizzaz.

Enchiladas are nasty the sauce is from can food because I have bought same store bought sauce, we ask the waitress how good is orchata here? She said well.,,, I don't know. We all have different taste! Ha! Man If I was the owner I would be mad! OF COURSE ITS GOOD ! Ha and orchata didn't taste good, I Odered more chips and salsa and they brought me noting but crumbs. I of course would not recommend.

Wonderful staff!!!! The owner is super friendly and was constantly making sure we were enjoying ourselves. I had the tres tacos for $6.50; one chorizo, one pork, and one carne asada and the meat on all was wonderfully seasoned. $6.50 for three tacos was a great deal because each had a good amount of meat and tasted amazing. The table also ordered queso and the dip was flavorful and had a wonderful consistency. The chips were light, crispy and fresh and the salsa tasted like it was homemade. It was a great place that I will definitely go back to when I am in Ft. Walton.

I'm somewhat of a carnitas snob and theirs deliver. Always friendly and quick service. Queso, chips and salsa are also very good. Have not heard anything good about other places in town, so I'll just stick to this one!

Great little restaurant with some tasty tex-mex food, awesome enchiladas, beans n rice were just as good, chile relleno was outstanding according to my wife, we enjoyed our dinner, and being from Texas, that says a lot The atmosphere and staff were great, next time we're in the Walton/Destin area wanting some enchiladas from home, we'll know where to go, I put this place up there with El Fenix, and On the Border, check em out..

Good Mexican food is, for some reason, hard to find in this area. You'll read that all over Yelp. I was very happy with my experience at Sabor a Mexico. It's a little on the divey side, but don't let that deter you. They don't play mariachi music at 90 decibels, so the quieter ambiance led to a better dinner, in my opinion. Their menu had the greatest hits of Tex-Mex, but also features some great authentic items, such as tacos featuring tongue and goat (delish, trust me). I chose the California burrito and was treated to a gigantic meal that I finished in an amount of time that must be some kind of record. But we were so relaxed and having a good time, we had another round of beers and kicked it for a while instead of just paying the bill and leaving like we usually do. So while this place is approaching Greasy Spoon status, I think it works. They have good service, good food, it comes out fast and the value is great. I'll be back.

The food was delicious and the people were nice. I will definitely eat there again. I know this place doesn't look like much from the outside but if you like Authentic Mexican food then you'll love this place.

Food was good! :) home-made salsa was on point, and the price was definitely right. If you're a fan of home-style Mexican food definitely give it a shot :)

Went to this place because of the reviews. Being from out of town I was needing some Mexican. I'm pretty picky about Mexican. First off the goat tacos are great! Awesome flavor. The margaritas are pretty decent. The salsa tasted about like what I make at home so that was nice. It's a little small so get there early or you may have to wait. All in all I say go if you are in the area.

I went a few days shy from Cristmas break for the first time. Not sure if that was the reason for my poor experience but non the less it is not an excuse. I ordered soup (menudo), I recieved it only to be astonished that the meat was 95% fat. My impression of my experience was that of when preparing meat, one cuts undesireable parts and toss them to the side when preparing the best out of any meal. In my case, the undesireble was given to me. I did my best to process their "meal" to no avail. In fact, I am typing from the throne.

Great little hole in the wall restaurant. The queso is great! The service was ok. It's definitely an authentic restaurant- you can't understand the staff.

I found this place on yelp. I was looking for a good Mexican place for dinner when I got into town and this place hit the spot! I'm kinda picky about my chips and salsa so I was happy right away because theirs were great with a little added salt! I had the shrimp fajitas and those were pretty good too. It's no gourmet food or anything but a good local place with fast service and decent food for the price. Another plus was that there was no wait at peak dinner time so that is a factor for me :)

Having lived in California I have had my share of great Mexican Food and one thing I can say for sure is nothing in Florida I have found so far is even close to West Coast Quality...having said that Sabor is the best of a really bad lot in FWB...first good sign when you walk in is the majority of the customers are Hispanic...second good sign is that the menu has the "Gringo" Mexican Food but also has the "real" Mexican Food on another part of the menu where you can get Carnitas..Carne Asada..Goat..Tongue..etc and the tacos are served like they truly are in Mexico with Cilantro and Chopped Onion and NO Cheese..Lettuce..or Tomatoes like The "American" Version...also like that I can get my Burritos and Enchiladas here in a Verde or Mole Sauce instead of the standard red sauce so prevalent in most Mexican Joints...make sure you order Bean Dip right when you sit down cause it's a must to have with your chips...after that I mostly order Ala Carte cause who really needs the Beans and Rice especially if you get The Bean Dip?....service is always on point as well cause the same 2 Ladies have worked here for years..really a 3.5 Star Place but since since Yelp does not allow I will round down to a 3...Sabor A Mexico muy bueno

This is probably the closest you can get to authentic mexican food in Ft. Walton Beach. While the food is very good, the portions can be a bit small and the price can be a bit high. But what do you expect? You're in Ft. Walton Beach, not miami or san diego.... It is what it is. If you REALLY want some mexican food, and i'm not talking about taco bell or moe's, this is the place for you.

Terrible "Mexican" food. Nice servers but just awful food. Taco Bell is better, sadly. I felt super gross after. Food came out 30 seconds after ordering, never a good sign. Greasy (not in a good way), too salty, heavy, small portions. Chips and salsa were the best thing there. Also, they don't have the right liquor license and can't server margaritas, just wine and beer. No, just no.

The service was great. You know the food was authentic when most of the customers were Hispanic . Cheese dip was the best. Giant portions.

I was leery of going to Sabor A Mexico after reading the reviews, but the other Mexican restaurant in town was closed, so Sabor A Mexico was dinner. I have to say that I don't think the negative reviewer and I went to the same place, because Sabor A Mexico, well, rocked. First off, Sabor A Mexico largely focuses on traditional, interior-style Mexican food. Most of the menu is in Spanish (with translations) except for the mall food court abominations presumably included to cater to the gringos -- taco salads and the like -- which should sort of clue you in that you're not at a Taco Bell. The menu ranges from taqueria-style tacos with beef tongue and goat (along with the more-accessible spicy sweet al pastor pork) to camarones a la diabla (spicy garlicky shrimp) to tortas (traditional sandwiches loaded with roasted meats) to menudo (tripe soup). The Tex-Mex fare is heavily represented, as well, with fajitas, burritos, combo this, combo that, etc., etc. The salsa that came with the chips (which appeared to have been fried in house) was of the tomato-and-chile variety. It had a pleasant kick to it -- it isn't mind-bendingly hot or anything like that, but no salsa you'll find in Mexico ever is. It definitely was neither mild nor lacking in flavor, and I devoured the whole cup they brought me. I typically favor salsas with more onion and cilantro, but that's just a personal preference. Sabor A Mexico's salsa is plenty tasty. For dinner, I went with the pozole -- a roast pork and hominy stew. See, I have the misfortune of living in Hampton Roads, Virginia, right now, and you'd have better luck getting a "Mexican" restaurant there to bring you a copy of the Dayton Peace Accords than a bowl of pozole. When I saw pozole on the menu -- something I haven't had outside California, Texas or Mexico -- I looked no further. And sabor A Mexico's pozole didn't disappoint. It hit all the right notes from the outset, showing up steaming along with the typical accompaniments: cilantro, onions, jalepenos, limes and lettuce. The pork was so tender I cut it with my spoon, and the chili-laden broth was perfect. And the aroma! I heard diners several tables away asking the waitress what I had ordered and what was in it. I, meanwhile, was happily devouring the last of the hominy. My only critique is that the restaurant doesn't have a full liquor license, which means you can only get wine margaritas (que?). They do serve passable sangria, though, and they have a decent selection of Mexican beers (which is what I probably should have been drinking with the pozole in the first place), along with an array of the ubiquitous jarritos fruit sodas. I think someone said the place is expensive? Maybe by Taco Bell standards. My pozole was one of the pricier entrees, but that and a glass of sangria came to a whopping $11.25, with tax. I would be frightened if it was any cheaper. I would say eleven bucks is well worth the warm, happy and sated feeling I had as I left the restaurant. So, yeah, Sabor A Mexico is an excellent hole-in-the-wall interior Mexican restaurant. Check out the specialty portion of the menu and try some of the more adventurous fare -- you won't be disappointed. Muy Bueno! Me gusta! (I would be remiss in not commenting on another poster complaining about cheese on the beef tongue taco ... no self-respecting Mexican restaurant is going to serve a lingua taco with cheese on it -- the diners must have insisted on getting cheese, and, well, caveat emptor, amigo).

Agree with Nick C.'s review 100%!!! His review is SPOT ON! This place is good, probably the best you'll find in the area, but I do wish the portions were just a bit bigger. I guess that could be a good thing though if you're like me and always try to clear your plate! LOL

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
